The Riviera Country Club located in the Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica is one of the most exemplary fairway golf courses in the country. To the delight of golf fanatics they are able to be reacquainted with the beautiful golf course every year in conjunction with the PGA Tour.

The Riviera was designed by the wonderful George C. Thomas JR in Santa Monica Canyon and opened in 1926.  Now although it was George who received the credit for the design there was in fact another designer who contributed to the original plan, his name was Dr. Alister Mackenzie.

The country club has of course had its fair share of celebrity status with it sitting so close to Hollywood.  It has in fact had many memberships from famous names within the industry including Humphrey Bogart, Peter Falk, Dean Martin, Gregory Peck and Walt Disney. There are still many celebrity figures who choose to use the Riviera and if you were to go yourself you may well find yourself face to face with Tom Brady, Adam Sandler or Larry David.

On top of this the club has also been used to feature in the back ground of three Hollywood films. The most obvious one being ‘Follow the Sun’, a film that documents the life of Ben Hogan and how he returned to Golf after being in a terrible car accident.

The first Northern Trust Open was held at the Riviera club in 1926 followed by a number of other clubs in the Los Angeles perimeter. Since 1973 however it has only ever been held at the Riviera Country Club.  Ben Hogan was lucky enough to win LA Open at the Riviera consecutively in 1942, 1947 and 1948.

1948 also held the US Open where he won his second major championship out of the nine he has.  There have been many other famous golf players to have won games at the Riviera including Nick Faldo, Jimmy Demaret, Byron Nelson, Billy Casper, Johnny Miller, Arnold Palmer, Ernie Els, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson and Sam Snead
